Property Deed Scam

There is a new scam out there preying on home owners regarding property deeds. While most of the targets seem to be new home owners, I thought I would share this information with everyone.
If you get something in the mail telling you how important it is to have a copy of your property deed, be suspicious. It is true that having a certified true copy of your property deed is a good idea, but you don’t need to pay a company upwards to $100 to get it, which is what it will offer.

If you don’t have a copy, it is easy enough to get. Simply contact the County Clerk’s office (contact information below). The Hillsborough County Clerks Office is currently charging $1.00 per page and $1.50 to certify the document. If you don’t feel the need for a certified copy, you can view and print a copy of your property deed on-line. Click here to go to the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s On-Line Records Menu. From there, click on NEW Official Public Records Search. After reading the public notice, click “Agree” and you will be taken to the search page. Check your property deed for accuracy, and print it out at your convenience.
